Just In Time - JIT
Just In Time is a manufacturing philosophy that demands and embraces a wide range of techniques. Some of these techniques have been well used in the US, some have not. Collectively they have come to be called Just in time (JIT). It does permit companies to make continuous and significant improvements in their operational flow. The fundamental aim of JIT is to ensure that production is as close s possible to a continuous process form receipt of raw materials/components through to shipment of finished goods. A production methodology which aims to improve overall productivity through the elimination of waste, which leads to improved quality. In the manufacturing/assembly process, JIT provides for the cost effective production and delivery of only the necessary quality parts, in the right quantity, at the right time and place, while using a minimum of facilities, equipment, materials and human resources. JIT is dependent on the balances between the ability of the user’s schedule requirements and the supplier’s manufacturing flexibility. It is accomplished through the application of specific techniques which require total employee involvement and teamwork.
